The students of the University of California system are calling for a public forum in which Governor Brown and President Napolitano can share the ongoing progress of their private meetings with the public at large. As stakeholders of the UC system, we believe that students have a right to be not only informed, but consulted as decisions about our futures are being made. As recipients of state tax dollars, we also believe that the voting public has a right to know what is being discussed in these private meetings.
We have extended an invitation to a forum at the Mondavi Center at UC Davis and have yet to receive an affirmative response. Will you stand with UC Students in calling for greater accountability and transparency of our University? Please sign our petition which calls for a public forum on the issue of UC funding at a time agreeable to all parties involved:
Dear Governor Brown and President Napolitano,
As stakeholders in the UC system, California voters deserve full transparency around the decisions being made in the Select Advisory Committee on the Cost Structure of the University. The choices being made in these private meetings will affect the higher education opportunities available for ourselves, our children, and future generations of Californians. We call on you to come out of the shadows of the “committee of two” by participating in a public forum regarding UC costs and funding this Spring, to be hosted by the Associated Students at UC Davis.
You can also express your concerns about the “Committee of Two” on the Department of Finance website
