Regent Progress Reports January 2019
The Board of UC Regents met at UC San Francisco on January 16 and 17. UCSA President Siegel Singh provided remarks on Thursday about last year’s January Regents meeting with tuition on table, an update on the establishment of the UC MOCA Parenting Student Taskforce, and resolutions for the UC. All UC Regents are in attendance.
The following highlights from this meeting are:

AFSCME 3299 members continued to provide public comment about their contract negotiations & held an action outside UCSF joined with students. The UC still has not provided a fair contract with AFSCME 3299
Presentation on UC Sustainable Practices Report.
6 out 10 campuses have meet zero emission vehicles for newly purchased fleets.
Presentation on Private Support for 17-18: During the 2017-18 academic year, UC received the most private support it has ever received at $2.7 billion. Regent Oakley requested for Claire Holmes to report back in 6 months with updates.
Presentation on Regents Engagement Plan: Kieran Flaherty mentioned Regents will have three ways to engage in budget advocacy – Direct Sacramento engagement, District engagement (including campus events, and public events. Regent Lansing mentioned, “Last year we had a lobbying day before may revise, and we were triple effective with the students.”*
Presentation on Voter Registration and Civic Engagement at the UC by UCSA President: President Napolitano will take recommendations and meet with Claire Holmes to identify a point position and create an action plan in conjunction with UCSA. Regent Leib asked President if midterms exams cannot be on election days.*
Student Observer in the Academic and Student affairs committee commented on professional degree supplemental tuition, and advocated for the committee to establish a work group on student services fees.*
Student Observer in the Finance and Capital Strategies brough to the attention of UCPath implementation effects to UC students and provided recommendations that are student/employee centric*
Board of Regents voted to sunset the Student Advisor to the Regent pilot program at the end of this academic year and increase participation for student observers and student advocate to the regents (StARs).*

Regent Progress Reports December 2018
The Health Services committee met at UCLA on December 11, 2018. One specific item to students was brought to the attention by the student observer on Student Health and Counseling Centers. The student observer requested for a specific evaluation process that students can provide input as the UC streamlines its health services. The committee decided to include that request for the next meeting. This committee only has five voting Regents in its membership and the grades below reflect their updated scores.

Regent Progress Reports November 2018
The Board of UC Regents met at UC San Francisco on November 14 and 15. UCSA President Siegel Singh provided remarks on Thursday about UCSA campaign progress, Regents campus engagement, and importance of joint lobbying between students, UCOP, and the state. All UC Regents were in attendance except Eloy Ortiz Oakley.
The following highlights from this meeting are:

UC Regents approve UC budget proposal with up to $7.5 million dedicated to specifically to support basic needs (Advocated on behalf of Student Regent Graves & Student Regent Designate Weddle). Regent Butler particularly asked the board if they were considering student priorities as discussed in public comment and committee remarks.*
The board approved the creation of a Special Committee on Basic Needs with the intention of producing a report on long-term solution to housing and food security.*
Presentation of updates to the Independent Assessment of Audit Implementation report.* We were curious to see if any Regents would bring up the recommendation of narrowing salary ranges. This conversation did not come up.
Presentation on UCPath and troubleshooting issues affecting both students and employees: UCPath staff representative mentioned that the UCPath implementation into UCLA and UCSB had a 99% success rate. They said, “the payroll issue is a very significant issue and will look at creating a study to solicit evaluation.”
Amendment to policy on appointment of student regent and adoption of student regent nomination procedures.* Updated procedure to include UC Graduate Professional Council as a formal organization involved in student regent nomination process.

The Student of Color Conference bid is a dual-pronged proposal that includes a 15-20 minute presentation and a written application. Both the written application and presentation is due on November 17, at least 2 weeks prior to the December Board meeting. All materials should be submitted to UCSA’s Statewide Organizing Director at organizing@ucsa.org. Please review the following guidelines which distinguish the roles and responsibilities of campus host and UCSA. Lastly, in order to submit a bid, the applicant must be actively engaged with UCSA’s Racial Justice Now Campaign.
