Overview
The University of California Student Association (UCSA) seeks a part-time Legislative Intern to learn a holistic view of a higher education non-profit, while supporting the coordination of lobbying and public testimony. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, able to think critically and possesses strong organizational skills. She/he will be committed to following through with job responsibilities and roles and will be able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. This position will be based in Sacramento, CA and will report to the Legislative Director.

The University of California Student Association is a coalition of student governments of ten UC campuses, representing over 210,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students. UCSA educates and organizes students around higher education issues and empowers students to advocate on their own behalf for the accessibility, and quality of the University of California system.
Job Responsibilities
The Legislative Intern will be responsible for providing policy, administrative, and program support to the UCSA Office of Legislative Affairs. Duties include:
• Conducting research on legislative issues and elected officials of concern to UC students
• Analyzing current and potential pieces of legislation
• Assisting in the coordination of student lobbying and other related activities
• Providing support as a member of the team for annual Lobby Conference and occasional days of action
Qualifications
UCSA seeks candidates who are highly self-motivated, critical thinkers, and possess strong organizational skills. Candidates should be current undergraduate or graduate/professional students within the University of California system. The intern will have:
• Experience working on deadlines and managing multiple projects at once
• A demonstrated commitment to meeting high standards and getting things done even in the face of obstacles
• A track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among a diverse group of people
• Desire and commitment to develop organizing and advocacy skills
The following are a plus but not requirements:
• Knowledge of UCSA campaigns and California higher education landscape
• Prior organizing and/or legislative experience
