UC Students Vote! Project

The UC Students Vote! Project aims to develop consistent and educated student voters, build power to impact our grassroots campaigns, and develop a diverse group of student organizers. UCSA was first nationally recognized for our electoral work in 1972, when 18 year olds first gained the right to vote. Since then, UCSA has consistently engaged students in the electoral process. In 2006, the UCSA Board created the non-partisan UC Students Vote! Project to ensure that UCSA would continue this work in each and every election in California, and to connect our electoral efforts to impact our issue-based campaigns.

UCSA’s November 2008 UC Students Vote! Project was our most successful to date:

•    Registered over 42,000 students to vote;
•    Educated over 50,000 students on their voting rights and the candidates and issues on the ballot;
•    Made over 200,000 GOTV calls urging students to vote and providing information;
•    Trained 53 student leaders during the first statewide UCSA “Bear Essentials” Vote Training at UCB; and
•    Gained national recognition for our work from the National Association of Secretaries of State, the United States Student Association, and the Ultimate College Bowl!

The UC Students Vote! Project is gearing up for the June 2009 Gubernatorial Primary election. Stay tuned for more information, and contact your Board member to get involved on campus.
