Advocacy and direct-action organizing are at the heart of UCSA’s work. Each year UCSA members democratically choose Action Agenda items at our UC Student Congress, aligning our statewide organizational priorities and building momentum for our year-long campaigns. Member-led campaigns are widely and deeply felt, build power collectively for students and UCSA, and forward our vision of accessibility, affordability and quality of UC systemwide.
Past campaigns and victories include:
• May 14, 2010: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger commits to saving the Competitive Cal Grant Award in his May revision of the 2010-11 California Budget.
• April 20, 2010: Cal Grant passes through higher-ed committee.
• Won a fee freeze in 2006-07 for undergraduate, graduate and professional students.
• Saved students more than $200 in proposed fee increases for 2008-09.
• Preserved Academic Preparation Funding when slated for elimination 5 years in a row (2003-08).
• Restored $6 million in cuts to the UC Grant program in 2005-06.
